A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officer was injured Friday night in San Jose when attempting to arrest a person driving an off-road vehicle near Alviso Marina County Park, according to San Jose police.
At about 9:20 p.m., the officer attempted the arrest near Grand Boulevard and Los Esteros Road. The driver hit the officer with the off-road vehicle, police said, and the officer was dragged behind it. The officer then fired at least one shot toward the vehicle, according to a police department news release. Police said it was unknown whether the driver was hit.
The officer was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, according to the police department.
It’s unclear whether police have made an arrest. San Jose police spokespersons did not respond to a request for comment. The investigation is “active and ongoing,” the department said in the news release.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is a federal agency charged with the protection of fish, wildlife and habitat, including endangered species. The agency includes a law enforcement office that investigates wildlife crimes and the trading of wildlife.
