Bay Area punk-rock fans who were looking forward to singing along to “Anarchy in the U.K.” next month will now have to wait a bit longer.
That’s because the legendary Sex Pistols — now featuring Frank Turner on vocals instead of iconic original singer Johnny Rotten — has postponed its San Francisco show due to a injury to Steve Jones.
The band, which was set to perform at the Warfield on Oct. 15, delivered the news via social media.
“We have some unfortunate news to share about our upcoming North and South American performances,” the band posted on Facebook. “We’ll let Steve explain what’s going on: ‘I’ve got some good news and bad news. What do you want first? Okay, the bad news: I’ve broken my wrist, so unfortunately we won’t be doing any shows for a while. The good news is the surgeon said I will be back playing guitar in the not-too-distant future. The other good news is I’ll be 70 tomorrow! God bless, and God save the wrist.’
“The performances will be postponed and rescheduled when Steve has fully recovered. Please check local venue websites and our social media for more information. We appreciate your understanding and support.”
The band’s lineup for this tour includes three of the remaining original members — guitarist Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock. Missing in the action, of course, is Rotten (aka, John Lydon), who originally split with the band after an acrimonious show at San Francisco’s Winterland in 1978. After a few reunions, Lydon split with the band again after a dispute over “Pistol,” a 2022 miniseries about the group.
With Carter at the microphone, the Pistols were reportedly planning on performing their landmark debut — 1977’s “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols” — in its entirety at each stop on this trek.
